Mexican agricultural worker standing in farm field

Meet Carlos, Seasonal Agricultural Worker from Mexico

My name is Carlos, and I’m from the state of Puebla, Mexico. I’ve been working at this farm for nearly nine seasons now, where we harvest Brussels sprouts starting in September. This job has provided a great opportunity for me and many others. The work we do here allows us to support our families back home in Mexico.

We mainly focus on growing Brussels sprouts, which is an excellent product that benefits both Canadians and other countries. While I’m not entirely sure where all of our produce goes, I know it’s high-quality, and it’s great to be part of a team that delivers such an important crop. We also plant peppers, which is another key crop on the farm, and both of these contribute to making this work rewarding.

Before I came to Canada, I worked in the fields in Mexico, but the difference in income is huge. The salary we earn here in Canada is much better than what we could make back home, and this has made a significant difference for my family. My wife, and our three children—our oldest son who is in his twenties, a fifteen-year-old daughter, and a ten-year-old son—are all back in the State of Mexico. Thanks to this job, I am able to provide for them and make sure they have a better life. That’s something I am very grateful for.

Living and working in Canada has been a life-changing experience. I enjoy the routine and the satisfaction that comes from knowing the work I do here has a real impact. When we’re not working, we like to stay active by exercising, playing sports, or just spending time with each other. It’s important to keep ourselves entertained and positive while we’re away from home and our families.

If there’s one thing I want people in Canada to know, it’s that we come here to work hard, and we take pride in what we do. This job allows us to support our families, and for that, we are deeply thankful. We hope that the opportunities continue, so we can keep contributing to the farms and supporting our loved ones back home.
