“I want my kids to have a better life than I had growing up – if they want to go to school, I want to be able to send them to school.”
Coming from a large and humble family in Guatemala, Jorge C. was raised with strong values and ambitions to always be better. Jorge had a few different jobs before deciding to come work as part of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program – he worked at a canning factory, harvested corn and beans, and even drove a motorcycle taxi. But Jorge’s decision to work in Canada was made 5 years ago so that he could give his family a better life back home in Guatemala.
To Jorge, Nature Fresh Farms means opportunity and financial security: “I’m extremely happy to have worked here at Nature Fresh Farms for the last 5 years because I have had opportunities I never thought I could have had before. When I come into work, I give it my all because the money I make here goes a long way back home. It’s very important to me that my family has a good life.”
Jorge is also happy to have had this opportunity because it’s one of the main reasons why he can now see his career dreams coming true once he returns to Guatemala: “When I’m done working in Canada, I’d like to start my own business back home. I might get into growing corn and beans, but I also want to start a chicken farm and export eggs. I want to become a salesman.”
When Jorge has some free time, he enjoys getting active outside by riding his bike or going for a run, as well as listening to music. He also likes getting in touch with his family whenever he can.
Every day, Jorge completes a wide range of crop maintenance tasks. It is also important to Jorge that he respects everyone he works with and makes sure everybody is feeling comfortable with their jobs. Jorge is one of our #GrowToPeople!
